Blankets, blankets, how many blankets does one need?????

How many blankets does one need?
A question I have asked myself often since I started crocheting again in March 2010.
I don't know about other people, but I sort of fall in love with an idea and just want to make it.
Well, sometimes this falling in love with an idea works out, and sometimes it don't.
At least that is what I have learned over the past year.

Take the first hexagon blanket I made last year, although I finished it I never really liked it.
So, I ended up taking it apart and using most of the yarn to make my Japanese Flower blanket.

Now, I love that blanket.

And I also love the second hexagon blanket I made.
It's over the chair in my room and I still feel pleased everytime I see it.

Then there was my rainbow blanket, I love that one too and I really enjoyed making it.
Although I'm still not sure about the edging I gave it.
Maybe I'll do something about that one of these days.

Well there were another couple of blanket projects that didn't make the grade for me either.
I feel in love with Mia's grey blanket.

And I even went so far as to knit and crochet all the squares for that blanket 160 altogether.
But joining them, how???? ( I'm not a hand sewing lover, which I should have thought of before making the squares.)
Believe me I tryed all sorts of ways to join it and none of them looked right so I just left it.

And then there was the idea I had to make my oldest daughter a blanket for Christmas.
Well, it wasn't turning out the way I planned and wouldn't have been ready in time for Christmas so I left that one too.

Well, I have now fallen in love again.
The pattern is called The Granny Log Cabin Pattern, and the way things are looking now I think I will be making two of these blankets.
One from all the grey, black, white and cream colours from the grey blanketI started to make.
And, also one for my daughter using her colours of pinks, greys and cream.

This year is really turning out to be a year of make new stuff from old.
And also using stuff up.
to be continued.........

  1. Wow you have made some beautiful blankets. I enjoyed the post so much. I also have a few projects started that I am no longer "in love with" that I will probably rip out. I do love the Mia gray blanket you started that is on my list...

  2. You can never have too many blankets. Just think, you can change the look of a room by rotating which afghan you put on a bed or sofa. Oh, and I think all the blanket's you've put pictures of here are lovely. :)

  3. Looking at your blog puts a huge smile on my face!
We tend to be in the same blanket-producing mode and also working on kind of the same projects... the rainbowblanket somewhat resembles the babyblankets I have made; I am working on hexagons at the moment too; and the Mia-inspired blanket is what I am working on as well, but then with a lot larger squares...Coincidence?
    Have a beautiful week,
    love Maaike

  4. Thanks so much for your lovely comments.
I am making a vintage stripe blanket at the moment for my oldest daughter, and a granny log cabin blanket to use up my greys, black, cream and white yarn.
So that will be two more blankets made without buying any new yarn!!! Great!!

Maaike ik woon ook in Nederland dus ik kan ook Nederlands.
I love your blog by the way.

    Groetjes, Monique
